Cat. #000974: STEPHEN ALDEN CHASE

Extremely uncommon 5x7-inch sepia-tone bust portrait, signed and inscribed in black fountain pen:  "For / Jenny Lind Bothe / from her friend / Alden Chase / 1934."  The only signed photo of the character actor we've ever encountered.  A 1.5-inch diagonal crease to the upper right-hand corner and a 3/4-inch indentation to the central left border, but, overall, in fairly good condition for its age.  The reliable character actor, who was alternatively credited as Alden Chase, Stephen Chase and Stephen Alden Chase, played physicians, scientists, professors, cops, detectives, and other authority figures in scores of classic films.  He is remembered by horror and sci-fi buffs for his portrayals of Dr. George Frye in When Worlds Collide (1951) and Dr. T. Hallen in The Blob (1959).
